Dundas Place Party 2006
Here is the report from Anthea Teakle:
It was a little showery, but we had shelter from the library's wide verandah and the wonderful marquee provided by the City of Port Phillip (it was a real bonus). We had outside gas heaters courtesy of the local pub. We had Dale the DJ/salsa dancing lessons - and a free stage from another bloke Katie talked into providing stuff for free. (I'd asked Katie, is he a friend of hers. "He is now!" was her response!!) Katie obviously isn't in the promotions business for nothing! The dance lessons were a real hit, people were up for ages and looking pretty coordinated too! Like in Sheffield, the pinata was a real hit with the kids. The adults were slightly freaking with the stick being waved around wildly. In the end Paul's beautiful globe could only be penetrated by Dale the DJ - who broke the stick in his efforts! I couldn't bear to throw the ruined globe out. It's sitting in my office - I'm wondering about restoring it - probably a vain hope! I also made a display, based largely on Roanna's website - and of course all your goodies. The bunting looked great - the dolls were adorable. We had a BBQ in true Aussie fashion - and plenty of beautiful food brought by everyone. I loved that the Brits had lamingtons made by a Frenchman/resident!! We had good press coverage from both local papers (great photos)- and a brief story in the Herald-Sun (page 13 today 22 May), one of Victoria's 2 daily newspapers. Now, just to let you know the Dundas Placers raised $248.65 for development projects in Esteli. Good on you!
